Konnor Griffin is the number one prospect in all of baseball. He is currently in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and playing for the Altoona Curve in Double-A.

Griffin is only 19 years old and was the ninth-overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. He is quickly being a star in the minor leagues. Griffin is not projected to reach the MLB level until 2027, but is there a chance that he could be with the Pirates as soon as next season?

MLB Insider Believes That Pittsburgh Pirates Shortstop Konnor Griffin Is Best Prospect in Baseball

Jim Bowden of the Athletic wrote about the Top 50 prospects in the MLB. To no surprise, he believes that Griffin is the best prospect in all of baseball. There also seems to be a major gap between the top prospect in baseball and the second-best prospect in baseball. Bowden said about the Pirates top prospect,

"Griffin has separated himself as the clear No. 1 prospect in baseball due to a hit tool that took a big leap forward this year, thanks to adjustments that included shortening his swing. He’s now a complete five-tool player with an impressive 6-foot-4 build. He delivers consistent, loud sweet-spot contact and elite bat speed. He has a tantalizing power/speed combination that makes it easy to project him as a future 30 home run/50 stolen base impact player when he’s fully developed. Defensively, he currently can handle shortstop and has center field as a viable fallback if he gets too big for the shortstop position."

Along with Altoona, he also played for the Bradenton Marauders in Single-A and the Greensboro Grasshoppers in High-A. In 113 games played in the minors in 2025, Griffin has a .330 batting average with 19 home runs and 88 RBIs, along with 64 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .413.

Griffin has only played in 12 games for the Curve in Double-A. It is very likely that he will be in Double-A to begin the 2026 minor league baseball season before potentially being promoted to the Indianapolis Indians in Triple-A. The Pirates no doubt have a future star at the shortstop position and a lot of fans are excited about his future.
