This offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies were in the market for a top free-agent hitter, evidenced by their $150 million deal for Kyle Schwarber and their serious pursuit of Bo Bichette.
But one thing the Phillies haven't been strongly linked to has been the outfield market. They signed Adolis Garcia to a $10 million, one-year deal, and besides that, they've not made a big move.
And yet, the son of New York Yankees' Gary Sheffield, Gary Sheffield Jr., on Twitter/x, made a bold, but ridiculous prediction with Tucker, in that the superstar outfielder will sign a $288 million free-agent deal with the Phillies.
Phillies predicted to sign Kyle Tucker to $288M deal by son of ex-Yankees slugger
"My guess on Kyle Tucker is 8-years, $288M to Philadelphia," Sheffield Jr., host of Yankees Unloaded, predicted.
Tucker signing with the Phillies this offseason would be a major surprise for many reasons. Not only have the Phillies not once been linked to Tucker, but they aren't likely to spend so much on someone this winter.
Their interest in Bichette is in part because they will be able to lower the AAV to a reasonable level and make his new deal fit on their payroll.
Tucker, at this predicted $288 million, eight-year deal, would be $36 million AAV, which is not in the Phillies budget.
Philadelphia hasn't been linked to Tucker this winter, and while they could use him, as their outfield needs an upgrade, Tucker isn't likely to come to Philadelphia.

While, in a vacuum, the Phillies' signing Tucker makes sense, it's not a realistic connection by any means. The Phillies haven't been linked to Tucker once this winter beyond speculation, and haven't shown a desire to add to their outfield either.
Sheffield's prediction would be an exciting one for Phillies fans, as they would be getting the top outfielder on the market. But it's incredibly unrealistic.
The Phillies haven't been linked to Tucker, either in the form of one side or the other showing interest, or an MLB insider predicting or projecting the two together.
Tucker's market looks to be a two-man race between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets. The Los Angeles Dodgers and another team or two might be lurking, but more likely than not, Tucker is going to the Mets or Blue Jays.
The Phillies have not, and very likely will not be linked to Tucker this offseason. This prediction from Sheffield Jr. Is a ridiculous one to make, as the Phillies have not once been seen as a serious contender for Tucker at any point this offseason.
