Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner exited early in the team's 5-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
After running out a ground ball that he hit, Turner sustained the injury while lunging for first base. He noticed discomfort and exited in the seventh inning of the game.
The setback came at an unfortunate time, as the Phillies are starting to prepare for a push in the postseason that's just three weeks away.
Trea Turner reacts to injury setback
Although the Philadelphia Phillies have a convincing advantage in the NL East and have one of the best records in all of baseball, Trea Turner seemed to be distraught after coming down with the injury.
"It’s never a good time, really. Something like this late is not fun, and when these games really matter, you need to be out there. [That’s the] more frustrating part with that more than anything — is coming down the stretch, playing in big games and not being able to be out there. So hopefully it’s not too many [games missed]," Turner said, according to Pat Pickens of Heavy Sports.
Turner is set to undergo an MRI on the hamstring strain on Monday. The injury will likely result in the speedy shortstop missing time for the Phillies.
Although Turner wasn't elected to the All-Star game in 2025, the 32-year-old has put together one of his more impressive seasons with the Phillies since signing an 11-year, $300 million deal in 2022.
In 140 games this season, Turner has a .305 batting average, .356 on-base percentage, .458 slugging percentage, .815 OPS, and a 5.4 WAR while hitting 15 home runs, 69 RBI, and 36 stolen bases.
