The Philadelphia Phillies have added a former promising prospect to their organization.

Liover Peguero was once a top-100 prospect for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now, he's a Phillies member, having signed a minor league contract, according to Aram Leighton.

Peguero originally went to the Pirates in the Starling Marte trade to the Diamondbacks.

Since then, Peguero has played in small portions of four MLB seasons. He's only batted.227 in the majors.

Even at Triple-A, Peguero has struggled. He's a career.253 hitter with a.403 slugging percentage at that top minor league level.

In 2025, Peguero dropped to.247 with a.375 slugging at Triple-A Indianapolis in 75 games.

He's known at this point more for his glove work, but that's inconsistent, too.

The Phillies certainly won't have any major plans for Peguero. Odds are that he'll open the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and stay there.

Philadelphia has strong options at shortstop with Trea Turner and Edmundo Sosa, along with middle infielder Bryson Stott.

At this point, it's a chance for Peguero to extend his baseball career, and he'll try and make the most of it.

Peguero will turn 25 on New Year's Eve, so if he finds ways to grow his game, he can still stick around for a long time.
