The Philadelphia Phillies have had a tumultuous last week.
After talks with J.T. Realmuto fell apart enough that the Phillies showed serious interest in Bo Bichette, those dreams came crashing down. Bichette is joining the New York Mets instead of the Phillies, leaving the Phillies with a clear pivot option to re-sign Realmuto.
According to Robert Murray of Fansided.com, the Phillies are bringing Realmuto back on a three-year, $45 million deal with a chance to reach $60 million through incentives.
Phillies to re-sign J.T. Realmuto on $45M deal
"Free-agent catcher J.T. Realmuto and the Philadelphia Phillies are in agreement on a three-year, $45 million contract with a chance to get to $60 million, according to sources familiar with the deal," Murray reports.
This signing from the Phillies is the expected one.
After missing out on Bichette, the only other option for the Phillies this winter was re-signing Realmuto.
While it's not official just yet, the Phillies and Realmuto need one another now, and this reunion makes the most sense for both the team and the player.

The veteran catcher is coming back on a $45 million, three-year deal. His AAV will be $15 million, which isn't a small amount for the 34-year-old catcher.
He's coming off his worst season with the Phillies, putting up 2.0 bWAR in 134 games, with a.257 batting average and an OPS of.700, the worst mark of his career since his 2015 season.
The Phillies have likely wrapped up their major spending this winter, with Realmuto being the final piece for their lineup for 2026.
