The Philadelphia Phillies are facing an exciting offseason, balancing the need to retain key players while potentially letting others go. Their top priorities include keeping Kyle Schwarber and possibly JT Realmuto. However, one name that could be on the trade block is Alec Bohm—but any move would have to meet one key condition.

“If the Phillies were to move Bohm, in my judgment, it would have to be because they think there's a chance of getting a Bregman or they're one of the teams potentially that could look at a Bo Bichette at a spot that's not shortstop," MLB insider Jon Morosi said. "There's different ways they could augment their club, but you would have to have a clear upgrade on Bohm if you're gonna go ahead and make that trade."

A potential replacement for Bohm could be Nolan Arenado via a trade.

“The Phillies seem determined to shake up their offense this offseason but they have only so many movable parts. Bryce Harper isn't going anywhere, Nick Castellanos is untradeable, and Trea Turner is not the problem. Third base is one position they could easily make a move, and I boldly predict that move involves shipping Alec Bohm elsewhere and bringing in a heavily subsidized Nolan Arenado to take over at the hot corner,” CBS Sports’ Mike Axisa wrote.

The good news for Philadelphia is that Arenado and the St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly working together to explore a trade.

“His time with the Cardinals has been really good," Chaim Bloom, the Cardinals' president of baseball operations, said at the GM meetings Tuesday. "We all feel it's best to find a different fit. We'll work on that, and we'll work on that with him."

Landing Arenado would be huge for the Phillies, providing a defensive specialist at third base. However, the move would likely be short-term, as Arenado is in the latter stages of his career.

This trade scenario would give Bohm a fresh start while giving the Phillies a player capable of immediately impacting their pursuit of a World Series. Acquiring Arenado could be a game-changing move for the franchise.
