Phillies not expected to have chance to trade for perfect player image

It doesn't seem too likely that the Philadelphia Phillies will go big fish hunting this offseason, but it's impossible ever to count them out when it comes to Dave Dombrowski.

Dombrowski has proven over the past few years that he's willing to do whatever it takes to win at the highest level, so a blockbuster trade could be in the works.

It was reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today that the San Diego Padres could move on from Fernando Tatis Jr.. If that’s indeed the case, Tatis would be the perfect player in Philadelphia.

The Phillies obviously need some help in the outfield, and his flair and offensive abilities would be a big plus to the entire organization.

However, according to Robert Murray of FanSided, he doesn't believe the Padres will move on from him this winter. He thinks it's possible if they decide to shed payroll eventually, but also questions if that's genuinely in the Padres' plans.

Will Fernando Tatis Jr. Be traded?

“There were some early reports suggesting that the Padres could entertain the idea of trading Fernando Tatis Jr. I just can’t see that happening.

“Sure, teams will check in. It never hurts to ask. But Tatis Jr. Is only 26 and is owed around $290 million over the next nine seasons. He also has a full no-trade clause, which further complicates any potential deal. Perhaps a trade becomes a more realistic possibility if the Padres elect to shed payroll in future seasons, but the organization, and especially AJ Preller, wants to compete in 2026. And their best chance of doing so is with Tatis Jr. On the roster,” he wrote.

The Phillies could come in with an offer for Tatis, even if he isn't fully available, and blow the Padres' doors off.

If that's the case, anything is truly possible in Major League Baseball.

But it doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen.
