Alex Bregman is one of the best infield options available this offseason, and the Philadelphia Phillies could find themselves in the mix for the All-Star third baseman.

Bregman signed a three-year contract with the Boston Red Sox before the 2025 season, hitting.273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs in 114 games. Bregman was also named an All-Star for the third time in his career, and for the first time since 2019 for his efforts this season.

As for the Phillies, adding Bregman to their lineup could help boost their odds of remaining competitive in the NL East. Currently, Alex Bohm has been manning third base, but he becomes a free agent after the 2026 season, which could entice the team to sign Bregman on a long-term deal that he desires.

The Athletic’s Jim Bowden has noted that Bregman is a potential fit for the Phillies in free agency among other teams as well.

“He will be sought-after in free agency as the industry views him as a winning player who can contribute on both sides of the ball and perform on the biggest stage in the biggest moments,” Bowden said. “He’ll likely seek a long-term contract instead of settling for a shorter-term deal like he did last year. By opting out of his deal with the Red Sox, he’s walking away from a guaranteed $41.67 million in each of the next two seasons.”

With the team also facing decisions on free agents Kyle Schwarber, and J.T. Realmuto, it could affect how hard they are willing to push for Bregman this winter. The team will survey all of its options ahead of a pivotal offseason after another disappointing playoff exit.
