The Philadelphia Phillies could look very different for the 2026 MLB season.
That's just one of the reasons the way their playoff campaign ended, with an error on what seemed a routine grounder, that much more painful.
This was the Phillies' last chance to make a run with this group. They got a bye and had a talented roster. And it wasn't enough.
Facing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the divisional series was probably a bit unlucky, but it's the way it worked out.
And now the list of Phillies free agents is a long one.

It's highlighted by Kyle Schwarber, who just hit 56 home runs and will be coveted by any team seeking a power bat.
J.T. Realmuto is a free agent, which raises the question of what to do with an old but reliable catcher.
Ranger Suarez is a free agent, a strong starting pitcher now available to everyone.
Max Kepler, David Robertson, Jordan Romano and Walker Buehler are also free agents.
Jose Alvarado's status is in the Phillies' hands. He has a club option.
Harrison Bader could go either way, as he has a mutual option.
What happens with Schwarber, Realmuto and Suarez will be the trio of outcomes that impact the overall vibe going into Philly for another season.
It's not even necessarily that the Phillies need those specific guys back. It's that it helps to know who has to be replaced as they themselves dive into free agency.
All that's for certain now is that all these guys are free agents, and the Phillies will have some work to do.
