Philadelphia Phillies star Trea Turner will return from the injured list for the regular season finale on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins. He has been out since September 7 with a strained right hamstring. Manager Rob Thomson told reporters that Turner will play shortstop but will not go the full nine innings.

Turner leads the National League in batting average at .305 and ranks second in hits with 179, trailing only Luis Arraez of the Padres. He has also stolen 36 bases this season.

Phillies Playoff Position

Philadelphia lost to Minnesota 5-0 on Saturday, which locked the team into the number two seed in the National League playoffs. This outcome assures the Milwaukee Brewers home field advantage because they own the tiebreaker.

The Phillies could still finish tied for the best record in baseball with Milwaukee, but the tiebreaker ensures that the Brewers will hold the advantage in seeding.

Injury Concern

Starting pitcher Ranger Suarez was struck by a 106 mile per hour line drive during Saturday’s game. The initial diagnosis was a right thigh contusion. He will be evaluated further to determine the severity and his availability for the postseason.

MLB Playoff Picture

The Guardians and Tigers both clinched postseason spots on Saturday. The Astros missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Several teams are still shaping their postseason form. The Mariners, Padres, and Dodgers all picked up wins on Saturday. Seeding and matchups remain uncertain heading into the final day of the regular season.
