Longest MLB postseason hitting streaks: How Ketel Marte's 20-game run compares to playoff record image

Ketel Marte simply does not make outs. In his MLB career, he's played in six different postseason rounds. The Diamondbacks infielder has yet to go a game in the playoffs without making an out, dating back to his first postseason game back in 2017.

The Rangers have been the latest team to learn the difficulties in setting down Marte. He had a blistering NLCS entering Game 7, posting an impressive .387/.406/.581 slash line with three RBI, five extra base hits and a walk to 10 strikeouts en route to winning NLCS MVP. He has multiple hits in four of the six games so far, and at least one hit in each NLCS contest.

After helping power the Diamondbacks to reach the World Series, Marte is now looking to help deliver Arizona its second title in the Fall Classic, with the first having come back in 2001.

Marte has already set one MLB record with his hitting streak. Next, he'll be looking to keep closing in on another. How does his hitting streak compare to the longest in history? Here's what you need to know.

Longest MLB postseason hitting streaks

With a single in Game 4 of the World Series, Marte has appeared in 20 playoff games and has a hit in each one. That run of 20 straight playoff games with a hit to begin his career surpassed Marquis Grissom, who had 15, to set the new record.

Here's a look at the longest playoff hitting streaks to start a career, according to Stathead.

Marte has the largest gap between the start of his streak and the current timeline on it. Back in 2017, the Diamondbacks played in four games, at which point Marte was 23. He began this postseason at age 29, but turned 30 on Oct. 12.

He has also now set the record for the longest postseason hitting streak overall. He passed Manny Ramirez, Derek Jeter and Hank Bauer, who each had hits in 17 straight games, per Stathead.
