The Athletics and infielder Michael Stefanic agreed to a minor league contract on Monday, according to a report from ESPN's Kiley McDaniel.

Stefanic's deal with the A's includes an invitation to Major League spring training, and he previously spent parts of three seasons with the Los Angeles Angels from 2022-24.

The 29-year-old played in nine games for the Toronto Blue Jays during the 2025 season, but spent most of the year at Triple-A Buffalo in the Blue Jays organization. In 106 games, the primary second baseman hit.287 with six home runs, 17 doubles, and 51 RBIs.

Stefanic made a pitching appearance for the Blue Jays in a 13-0 blowout against the Tampa Bay Rays this past May, turning in a scoreless outing with just seven pitches thrown.

Stefanic adds infield depth for the A's

Inviting Stefanic to spring training is a low-cost, high-potential opportunity for the A's. He's posted excellent numbers during his minor league career at the Triple-A level, including a.332/.427/.454 slash line across five seasons.

Stefanic could also be used as extra insurance if budding star shortstop Jacob Wilson hits the injured list at any time throughout the 2026 season.

He could compete for a roster spot with second base option Zack Gelof, who played just 30 games last season due to injuries, and faces significant swing and miss concerns.
