The Toronto Blue Jays could be heading toward a tough decision with Chris Bassitt, even if it makes sense to re-sign him.
Bassitt would be viewed as a middle rotation arm in Toronto, but might be more elsewhere, including a reunion with the Athletics.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report wrote that the Athletics make sense for Bassitt as they look to add rotation help. The A’s have arguably the best lineup in baseball and should want someone to come in with Bassitt’s stuff.
“The Athletics have yet to make a significant outside addition to a starting staff that finished 27th in the majors with a 4.85 ERA last season, and even if Jacob Lopez and Luis Morales take another step forward, they would still benefit greatly from another proven arm. Chris Bassitt, Zack Littell and Nick Martinez are among the mid-tier options they could target,” Reuter wrote.
He’s not an ace anymore, or what most A’s fans might remember him as from his Oakland days, but he eats innings and knows how to get outs. For a young Athletics team, there’s also value in having another veteran.
I won’t say this would put the A’s over the top, but if they can add some rotation help, they might be the favorites to win the AL West.
