The New York Yankees have a strong starting rotation, but there's some concern at the start of the year with Gerrit Cole not 100% healthy. To alleviate those concerns, the Yankees could acquire an extra starting pitcher this offseason.

Landing a starter in free agency isn't the best option, with all of the money they would need to tie up in their rotation to sign a free agent. Instead, a trade would make a lot of sense. And if they do make a deal, Jasson Dominguez would be a great trade chip.

For ESPN's Tristan Cockroft, there's one player-for-player swap involving Dominguez with the Miami Marlins that would make a lot of sense. But, this Marlins pitcher isn't Sandy Alcantara, but rather a 6'5'' ace who'd be a huge plus for the Yankees.

Yankees urged to trade Jasson Dominguez to Marlins for 6'5'' righty ace

"The Miami Marlins should trade Edward Cabrera to the New York Yankees for Jasson Dominguez." Cockroft writes. "If the Yankees are truly focused on keeping their payroll in check, they'll need to be creative in how they address their roster shortcomings."

Edward Cabrera, a 27-year-old right-hander, would be a great option for the Yankees to pick up in a trade this offseason. He's slated to only earn $3.7 million in 2026, meaning he's very affordable for the Yankees amid their effort not to spend too big this winter.

He's under club control through 2028, so the Yankees wouldn't just be getting a season or two out of Cabrera; they would have the Marlins ace for the next three seasons.

Cabrera had a 3.53 ERA in 2025 with 2.8 bWAR in 26 starts. His 137.2 innings pitched were the most he's thrown in a season during his five-year MLB career. While there might be some concern, the Yankees wouldn't need him to be their ace.

If Cody Bellinger comes back on a big free agent deal, the Yankees won't have the money to spend on a top free agent pitcher. But, they would have the ability to trade one of Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones.

For Cockroft, this Dominguez for Cabrera trade would be a great way for the Yankees to bolster their rotation for cheap, and for the Marlins to land a former top prospect to improve their offense.
