The New York Yankees are looking into a reunion.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Sunday that the Yanks are targeting a trade for Pirates infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
IKF played for the Yankees in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In those two years, he batted.253. He's a career.263 hitter.
Kiner-Falefa is one of the most versatile players in baseball, able to play all over the infield and even with experience at catcher.
He's also an incredible contact hitter. In this era of high strikeout totals, he's never struck out more than 90 times in a season.

The native of Honolulu is 30 years old now but playing very well for Pittsburgh. So far this season, Kiner-Falefa is batting.280 with 10 doubles, a triple, a homer and nine stolen bases.
The Yankees have dealt with varying degrees of infield injuries and ineffectiveness. Kiner-Falefa could be a stopgap option in any number of infield scenarios that could pop up in the second half of the season.
The Pirates are already out of the race, so it doesn't make sense for them to hold Kiner-Falefa.
Nightengale reports that the Giants are also interested in a deal for IKF, so the Yankees may have to move quickly to ensure they get the reunion they're seeking.
