The New York Yankees couldn't have expected this.
Ryan Yarbrough was a solid MLB pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, but he's somehow developed into a shutdown starter for the Yanks.
Through four starts with the Bronx Bombers, Yarbrough has a 2.25 ERA.
The latest came Monday night against the Angels when he gave up two hits and one run allowed in 6.0 innings while striking out seven. And the run was a leadoff homer to Zach Neto. From there, spoteless.
It's hard to picture a better start for a guy that most even considered in the rotation for this season.
The Yankees have battled all sorts of pitching rotation injuries and had to turn in odd directions.

Those turns haven't all worked, but somehow New York is still plugging along.
Yarbrough is a success story of the season. The Yanks did well with this move.
Whether he can keep it up is anyone's guess.
But right now, the Yankees will just take the fact that they've got another starter in one piece.
