Yankees predicted to make blockbuster trade for $152 million two-time All-Star ace after whiffing on Edward Cabrera image

With the Chicago Cubs trading for Edward Cabrera, the New York Yankees missed out on a target they were heavily interested in. Now, they need to rebound, and quickly.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that the Yanks should aim for another trade, but this time aim higher than a player like Cabrera; that player being the Milwaukee Brewers' two-time All-Star ace, Freddy Peralta.

“The New York Yankees were once favored to land Edward Cabrera, but those talks fell apart…If New York is hesitant to spend max money in free agency — a genuine possibility, despite the financial stature of this Yankees organization — then trades provide the quickest path toward needle-moving upgrades…Freddy Peralta is on an expiring contract, and thus the Yankees cannot guarantee he sticks around past 2026. But, even if he’s a rental, Peralta is worth his weight in gold for New York. Just imagine a top four of Max Fried, Cole, Peralta and Rodón in October. The Yankees would immediately have the best rotation in the American League, in addition to its most explosive offense. That is a World Series recipe,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Peralta posted a 17-6 record, a 2.70 ERA, 204 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.075 over 176 innings pitched. Peralta would be the No. 2 until the others return, and then, as Kline said, imagine a top four of Fried, Gerrit Cole, Peralta, and Carlos Rodon in the postseason.

While Peralta has one year and eight million dollars left on his current contract, he is projected to receive a five-year, $152 million deal in 2027. If the Yanks can move money around by then, there’s no reason why they can’t keep them.

Hopefully, they do and find a way to get Peralta and keep him in the Bronx long term. Then, they’ll have a rotation to be feared for years to come.
