The New York Yankees are trying to re-live the glory days.

Their newest trade acquisition is the son of a World Series champion from those legendary late-90s Yanks teams.

The new guy is Ryan Weathers, who came from the Miami Marlins in a deal for four prospects:

He's the son of David Weathers, who was a pitcher for the 1996 Yankees who won the title.

Overall, David Weathers pitched in 21 games for the Yankees, and they weren't the best part of his big league career, totaling a 9.57 ERA. He had a 4.25 ERA overall in his 19-year MLB career.

Ryan Weathers is a 26-year old lefty who had a 3.99 ERA in eight starts in 2025 for the Marlins. He was originally a first-round pick of the Padres in 2018.

Ryan Weathers pitched in 43 games for the Padres (5.73 ERA) and now in 27 games for the Marlins (4.11 ERA).

He strikes out 7.5 batters per nine innings in his career, although that's weighed down by his Padres tenure. As a Marlin, it's 8.5 batters per nine struck out.

There's no guarantee he'd start the season in the rotation, but he's got good enough stuff to at least have a chance.

Given what the Yankees gave up, they'd probably like Weathers to be a starter for them.
