There seems to be real noise emerging around the New York Yankees potentially going out and landing some of the top players on the trade or free-agent market.

The trade and free-agent markets haven’t fully heated up yet, but it would make sense for that to happen shortly after Christmas or even right before it.

According to the latest report from Hector Gomez, who has broken several scoops over the past few years, the Yankees are one of the teams expected to have interest in Freddy Peralta, the right-hander for the Milwaukee Brewers.

“Freddy Peralta is currently emerging as the most desirable trade asset in the MLB market. Teams like the Mets, Giants, Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, and others would have in Peralta an ace who would fit perfectly into their starting rotations,” he wrote.

Peralta would have an opportunity to step into the Yankees’ rotation and be one of their better starters, though I wouldn’t say he’s guaranteed to be the ace.

It remains uncertain how Gerrit Cole will look upon returning. It’s also fair to mention what Cam Schlittler showed, and Carlos Rodon and Max Fried being elite arms in this game.

Regardless, that doesn’t mean the Yankees wouldn’t be adding an ace-caliber arm.

When Peralta is at his best, he’s as good as any right-hander in baseball.
