The New York Yankees have been mentioned in a lot of offseason rumors so far this winter. While very few have panned out, they're a team to watch this winter.
One such rumor revolves around second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. There is talk about the Yankees potentially trading him, but until now, there hadn't been much to those rumors.
However, Jon Heyman of The New York Post reveals that the Yankees are doing more than just letting Chisholm Jr.'s name float in trade rumors; they're actively listening to trade inquiries this offseason.
Yankees fielding trade calls on Jazz Chisholm Jr.
"The Yankees and Cubs are fielding inquiries on their star 2B who are free agents after 2026 (Jazz Chisholm and Nico Hoerner)," Heyman reports.
This report from Heyman is a noteworthy one for the Yankees. Chisholm isn't just being mentioned as a trade candidate; the Yankees are actually fielding calls.
While the nature of those discussions isn't known, regarding whether the Yankees are receiving realistic offers and are seriously considering them or not, it's still a big report.
If the Yankees had no plans to trade him, they wouldn't be fielding calls as they have. Instead, the Yankees have been open for business.

They could move on from Chisholm Jr. This offseason if the right deal presents itself. Otherwise, why would the Yankees listen to trade inquiries?
The key with this trade rumor is that the Yankees' second baseman is entering the final year of his deal. Instead of letting him walk in free agency, the Yankees could trade him away, net some quality return, and look to replace him with a cheaper option.
Heyman reports the Yankees are showing interest in Toronto Blue Jays free agent Bo Bichette, which could be an interesting signing to replace Chisholm this offseason.
But, regardless of how things work out, the Yankees leaving the door open for a Chisholm trade enough that they're fielding inquiries is a noteworthy update on what might end up being a robust trade market for Chisholm this winter.
