The New York Yankees earned the win over the Kansas City Royals, 6-3, on Wednesday night.
However, infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. left the game early with another injury scare.
In the bottom of the fifth, Oswald Peraza replaced Chisholm at third base, and the team later revealed it was hamstring tightness, per Pete Caldera.
Boone says he thinks Jazz Chisholm is OK after exiting at KC due to left groin tightness. Initial strength tests were good. “We’ll see what we have tomorrow.”
Chisholm has battled injuries quite a bit in his time in New York. In 2024, he played just 46 games, and this year he has played 38 games with some more injury woes.
On Thursday, Chisholm seemed more optimistic, per Greg Joyce of The New York Post.
"Jazz Chisholm Jr. said he feels like he avoided something bigger by coming out of the game early last night with groin tightness and not pushing it. Thinks he could be available off the bench tonight."
Chisholm is struggling at the plate this year, hitting just .214 with nine home runs and 24 RBI while striking out 46 times in 131 at-bats.
But, Chisholm feels relieved that he avoided a potentially bigger injury by leading the game early.
It will be interesting to see how Boone and the Yankees manage Chisholm going forward, especially with his recent injury issues.
