Devin Williams' first season with the New York Yankees didn't go quite as well as planned.
Now the question has become whether there will be a second.
Williams is a free agent, and he won't be without his suitors.
But this week, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon reported that the Yankees want to bring Williams back.
That would certainly make sense as a concept. The Yankees traded Caleb Durbin and Nestor Cortes to get Williams in December 2024. They knew he was going into the last year of his contract, but they likely would've been considering an extension at that time.
Williams lost the closer job by May, but then he got it back for a couple stints the rest of the way.
His peripherals were still strong even as Williams struggled a bit from an ERA standpoint.
In October, Williams said he would "definitely be open" to a return to the Bronx.
Now, it seems like the Yankees feel the same way.
It'll be up to figuring out money value. Williams was viewed as one of baseball's best relievers before 2025. After a bit of struggle, he'd have to go down some, but how much? That'd depend on seeing if anyone else starts making offers.
The Yankees might want to get something done here soon, just in case.
