The New York Yankees have one main goal this winter: re-signing Cody Bellinger to a long-term contract.
While Bellinger and agent Scott Boras are seeking a seven-year deal, likely above $30 million per-year, the Yankees have balked at that seventh year and are in a standoff with Bellinger.
But, despite that standoff, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic strongly believes that a reunion between the two remains the most likely outcome this offseason.
Yankees get 'inevitable' Cody Bellinger update
"Ultimately, for the Yanees and Bellinger to both get what they want, the most realistic path is a reunion." Kirschner writes. "The Yankees get their No. 1 target, who they know fits their home ballpark, and Bellinger gets a long-term contract. That's why it seems inevitable a deal will eventually get done."
This is a big update from Kirschner. Not only is he outlining that the Yankees and Bellinger are the best possible fit for one another this offseason, but this signing is almost inevitable.
After the reports came out that the two sides were at an impasse in contract talks, there was palpable concern that Bellinger wouldn't sign with the Yankees.

But this rumor from Kirschner is a very compelling one for Yankees fans. This seemingly indicates that the Yankees are the clear favorites for Bellinger, and a deal is more likely than not.
Calling a reunion between Bellinger and the Yankees "inevitable" is a big deal. That's a significant step-up from where things have stood lately.
If nothing changes in the coming days, this report indicates that the Yankees are very likely to sign Bellinger to an extension based on their status as "inevitable" to re-sign the beloved lefty slugger.
This is some great news for Yankees fans, as the long, drawn-out contract talks might be coming to a close, with Bellinger coming back to the Yankees as the most likely outcome.
