The New York Yankees are one of the most fascinating MLB teams to follow this offseason. After a somewhat disappointing end to the 2025 season, a plethora of Yankees are set to hit the open market in free agency.
This includes Paul Goldschmidt, Trent Grisham, and Cody Bellinger. On the pitching side, key free agents include Devin Williams and Luke Weaver. In a recent roster projection for 2026, two of the aforementioned names are not included.

Devin Williams and Luke Weaver left off Yankees 2026 roster projection
NorthJersey.com recently projected the New York Yankees' 2026 roster, and both Devin Williams and Luke Weaver were featured in the "who goes" category of relievers:
"Who stays: RHPs David Bednar, Fernando Cruz, Camilo Doval, Yerry de los Santos; LHPs Tim Hill, Brent Headrick. Who goes: RHPs Devin Williams, Luke Weaver, Mark Leiter Jr., Jonathan Loaisiga, Scott Effross, Jake Cousins, Ian Hamilton, Paul Blackburn, Jake Bird."
Devin Williams is kind of a lock to not return to New York. His one season in pinstripes didn't go as anyone had planned, and his free agency stock has declined.

However, Luke Weaver does come as a little bit of a surprise, but he's in an opposite situation from Williams. His stock likely improved over the course of the season, and he will use that leverage to seek a lucrative contract extension.
Weaver has been a journeyman across MLB his entire career, but posted a 3.62 ERA in 64.2 innings and recorded eight saves. As for Williams, he was expected to be the rock of the Yankees' bullpen, but he recorded a 4.79 ERA in 67 games and gave up 33 earned runs. Before 2025, Williams had five consecutive seasons of an ERA under 2.50.
