The New York Yankees continue to be the favorites for Cody Bellinger, especially as the offseason market develops the way we’ve seen it.
Bellinger hasn’t moved quickly, and that’s probably because of Kyle Tucker not signing yet. The market has been a bit hotter recently, but it’s still relatively slow.
New York has familiarity with Bellinger, a need for an outfielder/first baseman, and should have more than enough to pay him.
Alexander Wilson of Empire Sports believes those reasons will ultimately lead Bellinger back to the Bronx. Wilson predicted Bellinger would sign a five-year, $170 million deal with the Yankees once the market settles.
“Right now, Bellinger’s camp is asking for the moon and stars, trying to leverage his name value into a contract that simply doesn’t exist in this sinking market,” Wilson wrote.
“However, reality is setting in, and I predict he will settle for a five-year, $170 million deal once he realizes the Yankees are the only team offering both the money and the familiarity he’s looking for. This aligns with the front office’s broader strategy, which involves the complex Yankees architecture of signing two Boras clients in the same offseason.”
Some have said Bellinger wants big-time money, which he deserves. However, there’s always a ceiling that teams aren’t willing to pass.
