The New York Yankees have lost a few of their free agents this offseason, with Luke Weaver and Devin Williams signing with the rival New York Mets.
While the Yankees cannot steal Pete Alonso or Edwin Diaz from the Mets, they could steal a different player from a different rival. Toronto Blue Jays free agent Bo Bichette is a name to keep an eye on.
According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Yankees have reportedly checked in on Bichette this winter as a potential free agent pickup that would be very interesting.
Yankees interested in Bo Bichette
"Three previously unreported teams have checked on superstar Bo Bichette: Yankees, Dodgers, and Cubs," Heyman reported.
The Yankees being linked to Bichette is of much more interest than some of the other top free agents left on the board. The reason why is clear: signing Bichette would have a significant impact on the Yankees this offseason.
Not only would the Yankees, if they could find a way to sign Bichette, help bolster their offense, but it would create a big question as to how the team manages their infield. Bichette has two positions: shortstop and second base.
The former would potentially mean Anthony Volpe is moved on from, benched, or forced to change positions. The latter would make Jazz Chisholm Jr. Expendable.

There have been some Chisholm trade rumors, and Heyman's report also revealed that the Yankees are fielding inquiries on their star second baseman.
Bichette would be an interesting addition for the Yankees, whether it's on a short-term or long-term deal. He would not only help the Yankees but hurt the Blue Jays, their biggest competition for the AL East.
While the Yankees have missed a few players in free agency so far, this rumor is one to keep in mind as the winter progresses. A Bichette-Yankees fit makes some sense, and now the Yankees have checked in on his free agency, further opening the door to a deal.
