Cam Schlittler brings the heat.
In fact, no New York Yankees' starting pitcher has ever thrown quite like the rookie right-hander.
Schlittler set a record in just one inning on Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Series.
In the first inning, Schlittler threw six pitches of 100 miles per hour or more.
In the entire pitch-tracking era (2008), Yankees starting pitchers in the playoffs had thrown a total of five pitches of 100 miles per hour, in all innings.

Schlittler also struck out two hitters on triple-digit velocity pitches, which is tied for third in MLB history since the pitch tracking era began in 2008.
Velocity isn't a guarantee of anything, but it can be an equalizer.
Hitters getting just a tad less time to react can make all the difference in a sport where hitting is already so hard to begin with.

No matter whether or not the Yankees win on Thursday night, Schlittler is a major part of their future.
And in the biggest start of his life, the adrenaline was certainly flowing. He was bringing all the heat.
It's a bright future in the Bronx.
