New York Yankees fans are patiently waiting. Awaiting the first big move of general manager Brian Cashman's offseason.

While the Yankees continue to wait on outfielder Cody Bellinger's decision, they could shift their focus to the trade market. One of the starters New York has interest in is Freddy Peralta from the Milwaukee Brewers, who finished fifth in the NL Cy Young voting last season.

The Brewers owe the 29-year-old $8 million for the 2026 season before he reaches free agency. A cheap salary for a player of Peralta's caliber. The Yankees could make a strong offer to the Brewers for Peralta if they are willing to offload some of their minor league depth.

Yankees are 'well-positioned' to make trade with Brewers

It takes two sides to tango, but the Yankees have a handful of minor league arms who could pique the interest of the Brewers.

"The Yankees are well-positioned to meet Milwaukee’s demands for a Peralta replacement because of their pitching depth in the majors and the upper levels of the minors," The Athletic's Chris Kirschner wrote Monday

"[Cam] Schlittler should be off-limits in a trade for Peralta," Kirschner added later in his article. "[Will] Warren or Luis Gil should be available in a possible deal."

There are concerns with Gil's health and command, but he was the AL Rookie of the Year in 2024. Warren has five years of control and led all rookie pitchers with 171 strikeouts last season. Kirschner added pitching prospects Carlos Lagrange and Elmer Rodriguez as two possibilities in a trade for Peralta.

The time for the Yankees to be aggressive is now. They have to decide if a trade package involving two or more of their promising hurlers is worth saying yes to.
