The New York Yankees have had a very slow offseason, but there could be a few reasons for that, as Cody Bellinger’s situation isn’t helping.
On the mound, the Yankees are expected to add another starter, but it’s starting to sound like it’ll be a cheap one.
According to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner, the Yankees don’t have interest in left-hander Ranger Suarez, arguably the best starter available remaining on the free agency market.
“Their starting pitching options are dwindling. They do not plan to pursue Framber Valdez, Ranger Suárez or Zac Gallen, the three best remaining starters on the free-agent market. However, there are still a few players for the Yankees to consider,” he wrote.
Suarez has been one of the more reliable left-handed starters in baseball over the past few seasons and was very good for the Philadelphia Pillies.
However, this follows a familiar pattern, as the Yankees have shown they want guys who fit them now and in the future. Suarez would help, but he’d hurt the current rotation players.
That could mean leaning harder on internal options, exploring smaller trade targets, or signing a veteran starter who can move to the bullpen once everyone is healthy.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise but as long as the Yankees add in other ways, it shouldn’t bea big deal.
