The New York Yankees haven’t been the most active team in Major League Baseball this offseason, and the latest intel suggests that they might be okay with that.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan appeared on The Michael Kay Show to talk about the Yankees’ offseason, where he suggested that the Yankees believe they are good enough to be true contenders in the 2026 season.
“I think the Yankees like the team that they have right now, and think they can win the American League East with it,” Passan said. “If opportunities present themselves, I think they will jump at them, but I don’t think we’re going to see an offseason with the Yankees being the most aggressive team out there like we’ve grown used to.”
The Yankees’ offseason to this point has been highlighted by bringing back Trent Grisham, and reliever Ryan Yarborough. Conversely, they’ve seen Devin Williams and Luke Weaver depart to the New York Mets, and are still involved in negotiations with Cody Bellinger.
The Yankees will be a competitive team next season regardless of what other moves they make — or don’t make — this offseason, but after a disappointing result in the 2025 postseason, upgrades will likely be needed to improve in 2026.
