A lot of rumors around Major League Baseball suggest that the New York Yankees have interest in a reunion with right-hander Michael King. King was part of the deal with the San Diego Padres for Juan Soto just a few years ago, and a reunion in New York would make a lot of sense for both sides.
It remains uncertain when King will sign, but according to the latest from Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, he believes King is the next one in line to land a deal.
He stated that King is looking for a four-year contract, which gives an update on where things stand for the Yankees on the contract side of things.
“Yet in the weeks since, the top free-agent starters remain unsigned.
“Michael King appears to be the most likely to sign next, with suitors including the Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Cubs and Mets. The belief is that King will sign a deal for four years, while the other top starters – namely Framber Valdez, Tatsuya Imai and Ranger Suárez – are looking for at least five years,” he wrote.
It’ll likely come down to the amount of money the four-year deal is worth.
If King ends up getting somewhere around $100 million, it almost feels safe to say that this could be one of the better deals of the offseason.
The injury history is tough to ignore, but when he’s healthy and on the mound, he’s just as good as any starter in baseball.
