New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez has had an interesting career arc so far in the Major Leagues, and recently, he has received support from a fellow teammate on his current struggles.
After injuries halted his development in 2023, and 2024. Dominguez has gotten playing time in his first full season in 2025. However, his performance has been underwhelming to some, as Dominguez was touted to become the next big thing very quickly, it just hasn’t come to fruition yet.
This season, Dominguez is hitting .257 with 10 home runs, 46 RBI’s, and a .720 OPS. Given the nature of the Yankees’ crowded outfield — Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, and Giancarlo Stanton have all received playing time in the outfield as well — Dominguez’s playing time has been highly inconsistent in his first full season in the big leagues.
Dominguez has also struggled playing left field, often making awkward errors, and not looking naturally comfortable playing the position, as a result, his playing time has taken a serious hit.
Cody Bellinger shows his support for Dominguez
Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger spoke with Randy Miller of NJ.com in support of Dominguez, comparing his own failures to that of the 22-year-old. Bellinger, who previously won the 2019 NL MVP with the Los Angeles Dodgers, struggled immensely in the years that followed. After a strong bounce back with the Chicago Cubs, Bellinger is having an excellent season with the Yankees in 2025, slashing .276/.332/.496 with 28 home runs and 93 RBIs.
“I think for myself, you learn through failure,” Bellinger said. “I failed a ton of times wherever I was at in the outfield or at first base. You've just got to learn from the failure.”
Dominguez is too talented to not figure it out soon, but just how long the Yankees will wait remains to be seen as they face a handful of difficult decisions regarding their outfield this offseason.
