Among the tougher things that happen in Major League Baseball, Japanese players joining teams in California is at the top of that list.
It's a very unfortunate reality for teams like the New York Yankees, but it often isn't something they can fix.
However, with multiple Japanese players being posted within the past few days, the Yankees seem to be involved with a few of them.
It remains uncertain who could land in New York, but Munetaka Murakami would be at the top of that list.
According to the latest from the New York Post’s Greg Joyce, the Yankees want to get back into the Japanese market and land some of the top free agents from Japan.
Why the Yankees can’t make a quick decision
However, he also went on to state that there is no sense in forcing the problem and signing a player just to do so.
“So yes, the Yankees want to get back into the Japanese marketplace for free agents and break up some of the Dodgers’ pipeline. They have continued to scout the NPB and send some of their top executives over to Japan every year for a first-hand look.
“But there is also no sense in forcing the issue, and without a surefire star in this class (or one that perfectly fills a Yankees hole), it is entirely possible another year will go by without the Yankees tapping back into the NPB for talent,” he wrote.
As the Yankees have shown in recent years, they're going to do what it takes to put the best possible roster on the field.
If that means going out and trying to give a player in Japan as big a contract as possible, perhaps that's what happens.
However, as Joyce stated, there's never a reason to give a player a big deal just to try to help a relationship.
