Derek Jeter sends message to 'frustrated' Yankees fans image

Derek Jeter won five World Series championships over the course of a 20-year career as the shortstop of the New York Yankees. 

That's what makes the Yankees' 16-year title drought all the more frustrating for fans of the AL East club.

Jeter is sympathetic and understands why the fanbase is running out of patience. 

"Yankee fans, they have high expectations. They’ve always had high expectations. For them, if you don’t win the World Series, it’s a failure. In that sense, I have the same mindset. So I get the frustration," Jeter said in a recent interview with Fox News Digital. 

"But I'm sure Hal [Steinbrenner] is frustrated as well. Hal’s been willing to go out and get players and put the Yankees in a position to win. But ultimately, you have to go out on the field and perform."

Running out of patience... And time 

In Jeter's interview with Fox News Digital, he emphasized that making the right moves at the trade deadline is crucial to a team's success in the postseason. 

The Yankees made several trades last summer and tied the Toronto Blue Jays for the best record (94-68) in the AL, but fell to their division rivals in the ALDS. Back-to-back MVP and Yankees captain Aaron Judge went home ringless yet again. 

Judge will turn 34 in April, and with an increase in age typically comes a decline in production. His career is closer to its end than its beginning. Yankees fans don't want to see him retire without at least one ring on his enormous hand.
