Just days after the New York Yankees were linked to Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner, another team has emerged, and it appears far more aggressive.

According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, the San Francisco Giants are actively working the trade market in search of a second baseman, with Hoerner sitting near the top of their list.

“The San Francisco Giants are aggressively pursuing a second baseman and have been engaged with Chicago on Nico Hoerner and St. Louis on Brendan Donovan, sources tell ESPN. An infield of Matt Chapman, Willy Adames, Donovan or Hoerner and Rafael Devers would be among MLB's best,” he wrote.

The Yankees’ reported interest in Hoerner painted him as a potential solution to their infield issues, but San Francisco’s involvement could change things.

There were also some rumors about the Yankees liking Brendan Donovan, but the Hoerner stuff felt cleaner after the Cubs signed Alex Bregman.

With youngster Matt Shaw likely moving around in the infield, getting rid of Hoerner seemed to make the most sense.

For the Yankees, this has been a very average offseason, to say the least. Interest alone isn’t going to get this team anywhere, and it feels like New York has just been a name floated, not one that actually has a chance to land some of these players.
