The New York Mets made one of the first big trades of the season when they dealt Brandon Nimmo for Marcus Semien. They did it to upgrade their defense, which they definitely did, but now they have a gaping hole in left field.
Luckily for them, there's a stud, yet cost-effective outfielder on the trade block. Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer proposes that the Mets start talks with the Boston Red Sox for All-Star left fielder Jarren Duran.
The trade would look like this:
Mets get LF/CF Jarren Duran
Red Sox get 1B/3B Mark Vientos, RHP Jonah Tong
“The Mets didn't need a left fielder when the offseason began, but now they do after trading Brandon Nimmo to Texas for Marcus Semien. That move was part of David Stearns' effort to improve the Mets' run prevention, and that's where we can get into another service Duran provides. He has 32 Defensive Runs Saved over the last two seasons, tied for second among all outfielders. He's also at least as good a hitter as Nimmo, and surely with more upside,” Rymer wrote.
This past season, Duran slashed.256/.332/.442/.774 with 41 doubles, 13 triples, 16 home runs, 84 RBI, and 24 steals in 157 games played. His speed would be amazing for a slugger like Juan Soto to boost his RBI total.
While the Mets have to give up a rising star, getting Duran really solidifies a win-now mentality for a low cost. And for a team with a huge payroll like the Mets, getting a player like Duran for less than eight figures is a must.
