Potential Mets trade deals away Jonah Tong, Ryan Clifford for $6.5 million All-Star ace image

The New York Mets made one of the biggest splashes of last offseason when they signed Juan Soto, creating one of the best offenses in the MLB. However, they completely neglected their pitching, and because of that, they missed the playoffs.

So, this offseason, they need to find another star ace. Luckily, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller believes that the Mets can find their man through trade, and that man is Washington Nationals ace MacKenzie Gore.

The trade would look like this:

Mets get: LHP MacKenzie Gore

Nationals get: RHP Jonah Tong, 1B/OF Ryan Clifford

“Extract that rough patch, and Gore otherwise had a 3.19 ERA. He also struck out at least 180 batters for a second consecutive year, which is something only eight other pitchers can boast. He would immediately elevate the overall competency of this pitching staff, and at a fraction of the dollar cost it would take to sign a comparable free agent like Dylan Cease or Framber Valdez,” Miller wrote.

Gore’s rough patch raised his ERA to 4.17, but he still had 185 Ks and a K/9 of 10.4. With some offseason work and the ability to be a little back in the rotation, he could thrive for the Mets.

Hopefully, the Mets consider this trade, as Miller said, it’s an easy way to get an ace-level pitcher for cheap. Otherwise, they’ll have to look at free agents who want big money, and that may not be good for New York’s coffers.
