The New York Mets are facing one of the worst collapses the MLB has ever seen, sliding from running their division all the way down to third slot of the Wild Card, where they’re tied with the Cincinnati Reds.
If the Mets fail to make the playoffs this season, it could be bad for them as a franchise. According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, this could be one of the biggest embarrassments in franchise history.

“They were 45-24 on June 12th, they had a 2.79 rotation ERA on June 12th, that was the best in the majors. The record was the best in the majors. Since then, the Mets are 35-53. THIRTY FIVE AND FIFTY THREE. That is tied with the Chicago White Sox for the fourth worst record in the majors,” Rosenthal said.
Rosenthal continued, stating that this collapse is much different from their last one in 2007, saying this was a slow-burn you watched happen.

“They have essentially collapsed, and not like they did in 2007 when they blew a seven game lead with 17 games to play, this has been a slow-burn; it’s really been three months now of inadequate play,” Rosenthal stated.
The Mets have six games left to make the playoffs, and three of them are against another Wild Card team, the Chicago Cubs. Hopefully the Mets find a way to the postseason, or they risk an embarrassment not seen in a while.
