The New York Mets made a great starting pitching upgrade when they dealt for Freddy Peralta, but they still need to fill one last spot in their rotation. Luckily, there may be someone cost-effective and decent left in free agency.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that pitcher is All-Star Zac Gallen, who could be signed on a short-term deal and increase the depth of the rotation.

“The New York Mets need some stability in their rotation, and Zac Gallen is trending toward a manageable short-term deal. He bombed last season in Arizona, but finished strong enough, and he's only a couple years removed from Cy Young contention. For a team in desperate need of veteran arms — or depth in general — Gallen feels like a nice cherry on top of a transformative offseason,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Gallen finished with a 13-15 record, a 4.83 ERA, 175 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.260 over 192 innings pitched. He would serve as an excellent back-end starter, and could have a bounce-back season with the Mets.

His services would also not amount to much in the grand scheme of things. He’s projected to receive a four-year, $74 million deal, but with his market not being that active, the Mets could probably get him for less time and AAV.

Hopefully, the Mets see what a solid move this would be and get to work. After an offseason of no pitching upgrades, getting a rotation of Freddy Peralta, Nolan McLean, Kodai Senga, Zac Gallen, and Jonah Tong would be awesome.
