Mets predicted to be best fit for $50 million All-Star to finally replace Brandon Nimmo image

The New York Mets have suffered major losses this offseason, losing Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz to free agency. On top of that, they moved Brandon Nimmo for Marcus Semien.

They need to start filling their holes fast. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes the first hole they should fill is their outfield spot, and they could be the best fit for Chicago White Sox All-Star Luis Robert Jr.

“Luis Robert Jr., technically under club control through next season (he has a $20 million club option for 2027), is due for a change of scenery and could flourish in Queens. A former All-Star, Robert checks a lot of boxes for the Mets: excellent center field defense, speed on the bases and a ton of natural pop. He has struggled at the plate in recent years, but he still hammered lefties last season and there's enough past precedent to suggest that he might turn it around in a better situation. New York has a fairly deep farm system and should be able to pique Chicago's interest, whether it's with young pitching or another bat to develop in lieu of Robert,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Robert slashed.223/.297/.364/.661 with 14 home runs and 53 RBI in 110 games played. This was a major down year for him, though, as he’s been an All-Star, Gold Glove, and Silver Slugger in years the White Sox were competitive.

If he were to go to a team that can actually compete, he may start caring again and could bounce back to his normal self. And with the Mets desperately wanting to compete, this could be a perfect match.

Hopefully, the two teams start hashing something out, as it could be beneficial for both of them.
