Mets get good news on free agent pursuits of Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger, Framber Valdez image

The New York Mets have had an active offseason, both in comings and in goings.

There is still plenty of work to be done.

In a new article on MLB.com by Jared Greenspan and Theo DeRosa, the Mets are the second team they list as still having moves to make this winter.

The Mets have seen Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz leave.

They've signed Devin Williams, Luke Weaver and Jorge Polanco.

They've also traded away Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil and brought in Marcus Semien.

Yet still, there might be a splash to be made. It's encouraging for Mets fans that this article thinks New York is still going to land a big fish.

"Either (Kyle) Tucker or (Cody) Bellinger would be a great fit for a Mets team that hasn’t shied away from spending big under owner Steve Cohen," the MLB.com duo writes. "Especially if they can’t land a top free-agent bat, the Mets are still in need of upgrades to their rotation, where covering innings was a serious challenge in 2025. With Framber Valdez, Ranger Súarez, Tatsuya Imai and Zac Gallen among the top arms on the market, there are plenty of options. Plus, with a bevy of talented young pitchers and position players coming up through the farm system, the Mets could always turn to the trade market to fill any need if they can’t find a good free-agent fit."

Bellinger might make more sense than Tucker since he can play centerfield, which has been a weak spot for the Mets.

The pitching rotation also lacks an ace, so if Valdez in particular lines up as a fair value, he could make a lot of sense, too.

It certainly sounds like the Mets are far from done.
