Just last offseason, New York Mets owner clearly signaled his intentions to the rest of baseball when he shelled out $750 million to swipe Juan Soto from the New York Yankees.
This offseason, the Mets have appeared more conservative.
Sure, they've added relievers Devin Williams and Luke Weaver, ironically both from the Yankees.
But they've also let Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz leave, losing two of the franchise's staples.
And now, Cohen is worrying Mets fans some more. He posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday with an odd message:
Payroll watchers always forget to budget for waiver claims, player movement from minors to majors and trade deadline moves. That’s how it typically works.

Fans have been quick to jump on this and point out that waiver claims and player promotions cost a miniscule fraction of what a superstar costs.
Sure, technically, it'd be good to be budgeted for them. But they'll be a tiny, tiny piece of the pie.
Cohen appears to be pushing back at frustration from the Mets' fanbase that they haven't signed a starting pitcher or a big bat yet.
His message isn't being very well received, though. Cohen maybe should've chosen his words a bit more wisely, or just delivered them at a different time.
