At this point, it is well known that New York Mets' star first baseman Pete Alonso will test free agency after announcing on Sunday that he will opt out of his current deal, but would he consider signing with the cross-town rival New York Yankees?

This past season, Alonso became the all-time home run leader in Mets franchise history, but with how fast he opted out of his deal, it has left Mets fans worried he may want out of Queens.

Yankees named top landing spot for Pete Alonso

In a recent Bleacher Report article, writer Kerry Miller names the New York Yankees as the top landing spot for Pete Alonso.

What a turn of events it would be for Mets fans alike to see Alonso switch his jersey to pinstripes after just stealing away Juan Soto.

It's unclear if the Yankees want to continue committing to Paul Goldschmidt as their first baseman, and that also leaves Ben Rice to potentially take over the position, but Alonso is better than both of them combined.

Alonso has made four consecutive All-Star teams and posted a .272 average this season with 38 home runs, 126 RBIs, and an OPS+ of 144.

The contract is certainly going to be pricey, but if the Yankees lose some guys like Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham to free agency, they will need to replace production. Nobody knows exactly what Alonso is thinking at this moment, but if he is through with his time with the Mets, his free agency sweepstakes will be among the biggest storylines in baseball during the winter months.
