Mets complete swipe of $3.9 million international star prospect from Yankees image

The New York Yankees had one of the top international prospects in this year's class, Wandy Asigen, committed to sign with them for most of his pre-signing recruitment.

But in the end, it's the New York Mets who have landed Asigen. The international signing period opened Thursday, and according to MLB.com, Asigen is going to the Mets for a $3.9 million bonus.

The Yankees are stuck trying to use their international dollars elsewhere.

The Mets get the guy ranked by MLB.com as the No. 2 prospect in this entire international class.

Asigen is a 6-foot tall shortstop from the Dominican Republic, a 16-year old who hits from the left side and throws righty.

"A standout performer during game action despite consistently playing against some of the Dominican’s top talent from a young age, Asigen has been heralded as having arguably the most advanced offensive profile among his class," MLB.com writes.

Asigen has one of those left-handed swings that scouts can't get enough of.

"The excitement around Asigen’s prospect profile stems primarily from his special left-handed swing," MLB.com writes. "He has ripped off 110+ mph exit velocities and is repeatedly able to find the barrel during in-game action. Asigen has a knack for creating loft from his frame, something that should allow him to continue to tap into his above-average power as he continues to fill out. The quickness of his hands has evaluators excited about the future potential impact he can have with the bat."

A 16-year old prospect, clearly, has years to go to reach his potential. The Mets are surely set at shortstop for a while with Francisco Lindor.

But someday, Lindor might have his heir.
