Pete Alonso is a New York Mets fan favorite.
The entire fanbase would surely like to see the slugging first baseman signed back to Queens in free agency.
Of course, it's not that simple. Other teams will be interested in Alonso's prodigious power, too.
MLB.com recently took a survey of 46 of its writers to predict where the top free agents will wind up.
More than half of the votes went to the Mets.
But then it was the Red Sox getting 22% of the votes, and the Giants getting 13%. The Rangers, Yankees, Angels and Padres all got at least one vote, too.
"While Alonso did reject a seven-year, $158 million contract extension offer prior to becoming a free agent last year, his reunion with the Mets and all he’s accomplished with the franchise certainly lends weight to the notion that he’ll remain with the only club he’s known," MLB.com writes.

Alonso is one of the top sluggers on the market, along with Kyle Schwarber.
Schwarber may get paid more, coming off an even more prolific season. But Alonso should do well for himself, too.
"It’s hard to imagine Alonso in a uniform other than that of the Mets, and a majority of our voters think that it’s in Queens that the slugging first baseman will stay," MLB.com writes. "This is the second straight offseason in which Alonso finds himself on the free agent market. Last year, he re-signed with the Mets on a two-year, $54 million contract with an opt-out after the 2025 season."
Alonso went through with the opt out to pursue one final huge payday.
If the Mets offer it, it seems likely he'd take it.
