The New York Mets didn't take the weekend off.
On Saturday morning, reports emerged that the Mets are signing Jorge Polanco, a free agent infielder from the Seattle Mariners.
ESPN's Jeff Passan added to the reporting that it'll be a two-year, $40 million contract.
It's a big pickup for the Mets, with Polanco coming off his best season in four years. He's a versatile infielder who is a switch-hitter, too.
The intrigue is added by what this means for what comes next.
Jeff McNeil has been in trade rumors. So too has Mark Vientos.
Will this move lead to them being traded?

Polanco has been a second baseman, but Passan reported that Polanco is expected to play first base and DH. If that's indeed true, it means that McNeil's trade likelihood hasn't changed as much as this move would initially suggest.
The Mets have an opening at first base after Pete Alonso's departure, and apparently Polanco will be part of the solution toward filling that.
Vientos could be looking at time at either first or DH as well this season, so this might not be a ringing endorsement of his future.
For now, the Mets are in add mode, not subtract mode.
Eventually, though, the signing of Polanco has opened up their options. Because he can play different spots, it leaves different avenues for the Mets to still make trades.
