Edwin Diaz predicted to cut ties with Mets, break baseball by joining up with NL rival super team image

The New York Mets were predicted to be a World Series contender this past year, but ended up missing the playoffs entirely. Now, they’re predicted to lose their star slugger in Pete Alonso, and one other core player.

That other core player is superstar closer Edwin Diaz. Fansided’s Mark Powell believes Diaz will pack his bags this offseason and sign with the NL’s other franchise with a super payroll: the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“The New York Mets signed Devin Williams as their closer-in-waiting should Edwin Diaz, their beloved closer of seven seasons, find another suitor. With the relief market moving quicker than any pundits expected this winter, don't be surprised if Diaz is one of the biggest names taken off the board in Orlando. As much as the Mets would like to keep him around, even Steve Cohen can run out of money, and New York is chasing many of the top free agents already. A team like the Dodgers – built to win now but in need of back-end bullpen help – could easily sweep Diaz off his feet,” Elman wrote.

This past season, Diaz posted a record of 6-3, an ERA of 1.63, 98 Ks, a WHIP of 0.874, and 28 saves in 62 games. He would take over the role of closer from Roki Sasaki, who would move back into the starting rotation for the Dodgers.

If this were to happen, the Mets would suffer a huge loss, and so would the MLB. New York loses their guy that basically makes sure they win games, and the Dodgers become the undisputed rulers of the league for at least another five years.

Hopefully, the Mets realize this and make sure to do their best in retaining Diaz.
