The Minnesota Twins just finished a disappointing season, ending with a record of 70-92 and in fourth place in the AL Central. Because of it, they’ve decided to part ways with their manager, Rocco Baldelli.
Now they need to look for another skipper to bring about a new direction for the team. Here are three possible managers Minnesota may give a call:
Bob Melvin, San Francisco Giants
Like Baldelli, Melvin parted ways with the Giants, as GM Buster Posey said the team needed to move in a different direction. Melvin is an experienced manager with over 22 seasons under his belt, and a record of 1678-1588, and has had plenty of experience in postseason play as well.
The three-time Manager of the Year could be the man for the job, as the Twins could use a more experienced manager.
Bruce Bochy, Texas Rangers
Bochy is another experienced skipper that could do the job. He’s got a Manager of the Year, four World Series, and five Pennants under his belt. He has an expiring contract with the Rangers, and they may not bring him back.
The only problem with this is the Twins may have to contend with his former team, the Giants, as it’s been hinted that the Giants may go after a reunion with Bochy.
Derek Shelton, Pittsburgh Pirates
Shelton was let go earlier this year by the Pirates after starting with a 12-26 record. While he’s only got five years of experience as a skipper, a change in scenery might be the answer to figuring things out.
Shelton would be the final option, but he definitely could at least be a provisional manager while the Twins hone in on someone they really want.
Hopefully the Twins find someone good to lead their team, as they only need to have a great offseason to put themselves back in contention for the division.
