With the Milwaukee Brewers set to enter their final series of the season against the Cincinnati Reds, there will no 100-win teams in Major League Baseball this season. Milwaukee is 96-63 and has the best record in baseball. However, there are only three games left on its schedule, meaning the maximum games they could win are 99.
The Philadelphia Phillies are the next closest with 93, and the Dodgers are about to win their 90th game this afternoon. As for the AL, the Blue Jays and Yankees have 90 wins, but that is it. The Dodgers' win total before the season was over 100 games, and the lack of 100-win teams highlights the growing parity in MLB.
This is the second straight season with no 100-win teams
Considering the Brewers can't win 100 games this season, that means this is the second consecutive season that there will be no 100-win teams.
In the previous eight seasons before that (2015-2023), there was at least one team each season that reached the 100-win mark, and some seasons even featured multiple teams to reach the century mark.
There was also no real race for the top seed in MLB. The Brewers have held the best record in baseball for the last two months and have not given any teams the chance to catch them.
Both leagues are ultra-competitive, but the American League specifically has been a beast. It looked like the Detroit Tigers might coast to 90 wins and have a chance for 100, but they hit a nasty slump and are now fighting for their playoff lives. No team in the American League will finish with more than 95 wins this season.
Philadelphia could be the next closest to the 95 mark, as they sit at 93 on the season with four games left to be played.
