Quinn Priester can't be stopped.
When Priester is on the mound, the Milwaukee Brewers simply don't lose, and it has now reached a franchise record level.
The first detail here is simple: The Brewers won 5-2 on Friday night over the Pittsburgh Pirates, with Priester earning the win on the mound.
Now the record: Priester's last 11 decisions have all been wins, the longest streak in Brewers franchise history, according to MLB.com.
He broke a 1992 joint record. Somehow in that season, both Chris Bosio and Cal Eldred put together streaks of 10 consecutive decisions as wins, so they shared the franchise mark until Priester broke it 33 years later.
“That [personal] streak, it was kind of following me around because there were a couple of no-decisions," Priester told reporters after the game. "I’m very proud of that because it means I’ve been doing things well, or at least well enough. But I’m kind of glad that’s kind of done and we move on. And everyone’s goal in here should be to win 100 games this year.”
There's an even longer streak in place, too.
The Brewers have now won 17 consecutive games that Priester takes the mound in. That includes 14 starts and three appearances as a bulk reliever after an opener.
Not bad for a guy who the Brewers traded for in April off of Boston's Triple-A roster.
Priester had a great prospect pedigree, but it was starting to look like he might not live up to it.
Now? He's living up to it and then some, and the Brewers can't wait to give him the baseball every fifth day.
